So i’ll start with the easy one, the Mantic Games MALAK’S LEGION OF DEATH – ARMY DEAL. This box set comes in at £99 on the Mantic webstore and an additional Ghoul Troop deal for £20.

That gives you the following stuff.

Vampire on winged nightmare/hellsteed
2x Vampires on foot
Wight King BSB
Wight King on foot

50 Ghouls
40 Skellies
40 Grave Guard
5 Black knights
5 Wraiths

So using 4 of the characters (Lord on foot, Vamp on foot, Vamp on Hellsteed and a Wight BSB) and all the troops, with relevant command group upgrades, the army comes in at 2350 points. THATS WITH NO MAGIC ITEMS OR POWERS!! So throw in a couple of hundred points worth of magic trinkets and powers (that could be as much as 600 points if you really wanted!) and you get either a 2500 point army, or you can scale the troops back to 2250 and have lots spare to raise with.

So now i’m going to have a look at the equivalent GW stuff.

Starting with the characters.

You get a Blood Dragon on winged nightmare, Konrad and Manfred on foot, The aristocratic Lady vampire, and a Wight BSB.

The troops are 5 boxes of ghouls, 4 boxes of skellies and 4 boxes of Grave guard, 5 Black knights and 5 Wraiths.

All of that comes in at £342.50. You can save yourself a bit of cash by dropping the winged nightmare down to a Mounted Manfred (use it as a hellsteed still), and using chaos knight instead of black knights (converting them with some random ghoul and skellies bitz) it comes down to £311. I looked at using the battalion boxes to bring the price down more but it includes zombies and a corpse cart so wouldn’t make a good comparison.

So on a £vs£ comparison you are looking at £119 vs £311.

With the Mantic stuff you also get Free foam carry cases, posters, the Mantic points system and You also get 2 Screaming skull catapults (incase you decide to do tomb kings too)

The main problem that Mantic has at the moment is a lack of Zombies,(which are in the pipeline) Dire wolves and fellbats. But there is nothing stopping you using the Games workshop range to fill the gaps.

We talk about ides of march, up and coming Oz events, the ETC and all sorts of other random warhammer talk.

I have also added the 2 Podhammer Inner circle episodes that i have appeared in.

Members of the Rankings HQ team have been developing and running rankings systems for the past 10 years however recently the focus has shifted to offering a more complete online service that players of games around the world can benefit from.

The result is an online international gaming portal where players of various game systems and different countries can have a single site that lists all the results, articles, clubs and tournaments they are interested in. Players are able to create and update their RHQ profile for free giving them the ability to network with other players instantly via the “friends” and messaging functionality as well as stay abreast of the happenings in their areas of interest via the event calendar and news feed engine.

The initial launch of the site includes Warhammer Fantasy for the United Kingdom, Australia, United States and New Zealand with Warhammer 40K and Flames of War game systems to be launched soon. There are also several countries preparing data that will be added to RHQ in the near future.

Development of Rankings HQ is ongoing and new functionality will be released on a regularly basis both planned and based on player feedback.

100 Rankings Points Threshold

With the increase in popularity of tournaments in general we find ourselves in the situation where more and more events are offering the maximum of 100 rankings points. In just a few years we have progressed from having 10 tournaments that reached the 50 player threshold in 2008 to the 14 we had in 2009 and now 2010 promises to have even more with alot of the current 50+ player events expanding to be closer to 100 players.

A bi-product of this trend is the reduction in the spread of scores for players across the spectrum and a positive skew of the distribution towards the top end. This trend will continue as tournaments around the country continue to grow in size. The feeling is a slight increase in the 100 rankings point threshold will relieve the pressure on the system and provide some room for the rankings engine to grow as the tournament scene does.

For 2010 the number of players required to enable the awarding of 100 rankings points to the winner will be set at 60. This will be in effect immediately following the conclusion of the 2009 tournament season.

Sorry about the late notice but i’ve only just decided!!!

In the dark places of the world, the Beastmen have been gathering in number and in February they will unleash their rage on the Warhammer world with renewed vigour. A feral army of twisted monsters, the Beastmen have inhabitant the dark forests and wild places of the world since such places existed. To lead a Beastmen army is to field vast herds of braying, brutish beasts who worship Chaos in all its forms, and who fight to level the civilised world.

This will be the first time ever that the Beastmen have had their own, completely stand-alone, army list. The forthcoming Warhammer Armies: Beastmen is full of twisted monsters old and new, and an all-new lore of magic. The Beastmen are the original inhabitants of the Old World: in February 2010 they come to reclaim it from the hands of Men.

The Bad Dice Masters 2009

The event will take place in Derby on the weekend of the 9th and 10th of January

Invitation Criteria

The invitations will be handed out as follows:

1. Winner of the 2008 Masters – Martin Bunting
2. Top 15 ranked players in the Bad Dice and Irresistible Force Warhammer Fantasy UK rankings

The invitations will be sent out at the close of the 2009 Tournament Season. The last date for submitting results is Monday 7th December 2009.
If you receive an invitation to the Masters you have 1 week to confirm your attendance before your place is offered to the next player in the rankings.

As the tradition of the Masters grows from year to year we introduce new elements that enhance the experience for the players involved. As in the previous year we will be presenting an award to those that are attending the Masters, and we also will be presenting the “Best Army General” awards for the highest ranked player for each army at the end of the tournament season.

As you can see from this pic the Harpies are positioned to block the dark riders charging past them. The Dark riders charge the harpies who choose to flee, rolling 12"

The nearest model from the harpy unit moves directly away along a line from the center of the Dark Rider unit. The other 4 harpies move along a parellel path.

The Dark Riders must wheel to go after the harpies, that uses up 7" of their move leaving them only 11". The Harpies are just too far away and the charge is failed

In this example the Spearelves are charging the flank of a unit of Repeater crossbow elves

They are starting their charge from only 4" away.

The RXB Elves choose to flee and roll 5 for their distance. They are pivoted around their center to move directly away from the center of the spearelves. There is an example of this on page 22 of the rulebook.

They are then moved their flee distance directly away.

The Spearelves find themselves out of range and the charge is failed

In our last example the Dark Rider are blocking the Spearelves. The Spears declare a charge and the Dark Riders choose to flee. They roll 7"

The Dark riders are turned to face directly away from the Spearelves and move their flee distance along a line drawn between the center of both units.

The Spears must first wheel after their target and there remaining charge distance if found to be short. The charge is failed.

Normally we would dive straight into WFB and go for the win. This time around we want to have a go at trying a different system and also try to use the podcast and the gaming community to raise some cash for charity.

This year Both Ben and I will be playing 40k.

Nothing too out of the ordinary there…..

Apart from the fact that we have only played a handful of games between the 2 of us over the last 3 editions and not played any of the latest edition of the game.

And the CC is 12 weeks away….

What we want to do is to get listeners to donate their unwanted and unused Space Marines to our cause. If you have a few spare sprues lying around them pop them in the post. Anything that gets sent in will be painted by the 2 of us and put into our list for the event. We will keep the website and podcast upto date with our progress. Battle reports, photos, painting guides and all that sort of stuff will be put on this page.

One the event is over, the armies that we have assembled will be sold on ebay and all the cash will be give to the charity Help for Heroes

So start rummaging through your bitz boxes and send in anything you can spare. If you have some stuff that you would like to donate then send me a email at charity40k@baddice.co.uk so i can pass you the mailing address.
