Forge World release warscolls for Monstrous Arcanum units

Monstrous Arcanum WarscrollsForge World have today posted all the war scrolls for the monstrous arcanum units.

Until now the only Age of Sigmar models from Forge World that had rules were the units found in the Tamurkhan book.

This release sees rules posted for units like the Basilisk, Carmine Dragon, Colossal Squig and Fimir Warriors.

You can download the full PDF on the Forge World website

Some of my highlights from the rules are the 4d6 moving Colossal Squig.  It has 16 wounds, and can put out a huge amount of damage with its 8 attacks hitting on 2+, Wounding on 3+ with -2 rend and D3 Damage.

The Carmine Dragon has an awesome breath weapon with a bravery roll against an opponents bravery to dish out mortal wounds.  Picking the right target to make the most of its bravery 10 can cause some real damage.

I’m looking forward to getting my Warp Dragon on the table as its the only Dragon in the Chaos Alliance.

Which rules caught your attention?

The Double Bus army build

On this episode I talk about the double bus army build. This tactic can be applied to most armies that can bring 2 good cav units.

BDD 294 – Mailbag: All Mounted High Elves and Nightshroud rules

Mailbag: All Mounted High Elves and Nightshroud Rules

In this listener submitted questions episode I take a question from Brian about Brettonian style High Elves and one from Ben about the Nightshroud rules.

First up is the one about the Mounted High Elves

Interesting that you chose Bretts. What if you built a Bretonnia list using High Elves? Surely the High Elf special rules and support choices would be more “powerful” than the traditional Brett lists? What with High Elf calvary’s ability to be fielded in “Lances” now, and High Magic adding to the 6+ ward save of Dragon Princes – the High Elf calvary should point for point exceed the abilities of the Brett Calvary. Then you would also have the added abilities of the High Elf shooting and support such as Eagles and Phoenixes.

Call them “Brelves” if you will.

A sample list is attached, but if it will not open, consider:

-Mounted Archmage in the middle of a lance of 8 Dragon Princes – BOTWD. Cast one spell, and the unit is now at a 5+ ward similar to praying Bretts. AM is now “immune” to death magic as well. He can also 1 dice 3-4 spells a turn getting this ward save to ridiculous levels.

-Mounted Level one with ring in the middle of a second lance of 8 DP’s. 2 more magic missiles that add to ward saves.

-BSB with Starlance in a unit of 8 Silver Helms. Str 7 with rerolls busts 1+save armors.

-Second lance of 9 Silver Helms.

-2×5 Reavers with bows tor round out Core.

Additional support in the form of:
-3 Bolt Throwers
-2x 5 Sisters
-1 FrostHeart.

I think a player of your caliber would rocket back up the rankings with a list like this! I am sure multiple variations abound – such as combining the Dragon princes and adding in Shadow or Beast magic.

Give it a try!

Best regards,

-Brian

And then about the Nightshroud

Hey Ben, love the show

I have a question reguarding challenges, I will use my vampires as an example so here it goes:

My vampire lord is on foot in a unit, sitting alongside a normal vampire. My normal vampire is wearing the Nightshroud, which removes strength bonuses from enemy models weapons in base contact.

If my vampire lord issues a challenge, and lets say, an ogre lord with great weapon answers the challenge, subsequently moves into base contact with my vampire lord, but is also in base contact with the baby vampire.

Does the Nightshroud on the baby vampire effect the ogre lord, even though he is in a challenge with the vampire lord? This question can also be extended to some chaos powers like acid ichor and such.

Cheers Ben!

BDD 284 – Mailbag: Ghostly Howl and Death Shriek

BDD 284 - Mailbag: Ghostly Howl and Death Shriek

Mailbag: Ghostly Howl and Death Shriek

I was sent in the following questions by Tim from WYSIWYG Gaming group.

The questions are regarding the Vampire Counts Ghostly Howl and Death Shriek rules

I have a topic for you for one of the baddice daily shows, more than Gareth’s query corner, as I believe there is enough here to make an episode from.
I played a game with Gareth at MK Rollcall event, and our game created some query around Vampire army’s screaming attacks. We discussed the fact that perhaps you could do a daily show on Vampire screaming attacks, or get a Vamp player on to discuss these as they cause some real game play problems as they don’t seem to follow any normal rules in the rulebook.

Queries are as per the below, I appreciate that between Banshees and Terrorgheists they already ignore most of the rules for Marching and shooting, fail charging and shooting, line of sight, front arc, shooting into combat, shooting while in combat, normal targeting restrictions, etc.

· Query = Can a unit containing more than one banshee target two or more targets. (Shooting rules specify that all the models in the unit have to choose the same target so make that choice wisely. I am only aware of Wood elf items/spites that allow you to choose a different target to a unit for that model only.)

Example [Gareth had a horde of ghouls, with a banshee wither end, and wanted to scream from each banshee at the full 8” to reach two separate chaff units of mine.]
Can this be done? And if so can you clarify this for listeners as something to watch out for, as It caught me out and unpicked a pincer movement I was setting up.

· Query= Can a scream attack pick its target on a multipart model and therefore inflict damage on an easier target to kill.

Example [Oldblood riding Carnosaur, Ld9 vd Ld5, if the banshees/Terrorgheists can pick out the Carnosaur on it’s own ld then the mount is almost certainly dead.]

· Query= Can a banshee scream from the second rank of a unit. (I am pretty sure this is allowed) But how about if the unit is engaged in combat? (would it lose it’s normal combat attack in exchange for making the scream attack, due to being limited to one supporting attack in the second rank?)

· Query= Do banshee and or terrorgheist screams count as magical for use against enemy ethereal units?

I hope these make sense, would be good to get another opinion on these situations, and clear it up for all the listeners.
Cheers,
-Tim the Enchanter
